House-N-Home-Building is not a house plan site, rather we publish and sell the House Building Guide a monthly newsletter, and other valuable information related to the building of a new home.

If you are looking for a house plan site we suggest www.house-n-home-plans.com. This site features more than 21,000 house plans of all sizes and styles; it appears to have the largest selection on the Internet. As importantly, they have real people answering the phones so if you have questions or need assistance you can really get customer service, a rarity for internet based companies.

We commonly are asked about stock house plans versus using an architect. There are certainly situations and projects which warrant an architect, however in our opinion, most projects do not. An average price range for the use of an architect to draw up a set of plans is between $5000 and $10,000.

While it is unlikely you will find a plan that is perfect, given the large number of plans available, it is likely you will find one that is close. Most of the house plan sites are set up to make alterations to existing plans at a cost of a few hundred dollars. The result is that you can have a set of building plans for $1500 or less in many cases. The cost differential is substantial between these two choices. And since we are in the business of saving money for house building consumers, for us and most of our visitors the decision is a fairly easy one.
